Tupiza Limited provides on-demand support in the areas of audit and financial reporting. This can be telephone advice on what to do in a situation you have not encountered before, a written opinion on an accounting treatment or actually doing the work, such as preparing a consolidation or a deferred tax computation. We also do full or partial file reviews and audit mentoring. Oh, and video-based in-house training if you like.
Not everyone knows the full range of our services. Briefly:
For auditors: Advice on all aspects of auditing, particularly audit reporting, auditing standards, the related professional and ethical standards, how to tackle unusual situations and how to deal with awkward clients. Training for auditors at all levels. We can also assist with document templates and texts of audit reports.
For auditees: How to deal with awkward auditors. (This is very rare!)
For publishers: Technical writing on audit and accounting topics.
For everybody: Choosing the right reporting framework, advice on financial reporting standards, comment on sufficiency of disclosures and company secretarial matters.

New-style Audit Reports
For balance dates after 15 December 2016 auditors have to use a new format for their audit reports. They may use them for earlier balance dates, but it isn't essential. If you haven't seen one of the new reports with the opinion section promoted to first place yet, we're sure it won't be long.
Our recent webinar on changes to audit reporting was particularly well attended, but this hasn't stopped auditors asking for assistance with their first reports under the new regime. They are not easy to write. We have drafted templates for the most common situations. Use the contact form below to ask for a complete list or help with a tricky modification.
The Director
All this is carried out by Bill Heritage. He got a good grounding in auditing in London before moving to Auckland. In 1988 he became a partner at Bowden, Impey & Sage, the predecessor to Hayes Knight Audit, where he jointly led the firm's progressive audit section until leaving the firm in 2004. As well as being a hands-on audit and technical partner, Bill has presented many courses on public practice, auditing and financial reporting topics. He has a reputation for delivering humour with even the driest topic. He is also an author of widely used reference material. He still umpires hockey, although he retired as a player at age 61, long after any sane person would have acknowledged his total incompetence. His wife has finally weaned him away from youth hostel dormitories when they travel. He wants to be remembered for indulging in a misspent dotage.
Guarantee of Value
Using a technical specialist can be scary for some people, particularly if they are nervous about the cost. That's why Tupiza Limited does many assignments for a fixed fee and offers a GUARANTEE that you will receive good value. If you are dissatisfied in any way you have the absolute right to reduce the fee or withhold the fee entirely. (This may be modified in rare circumstances, but any variation will be discussed and agreed with you in advance.)
The Company's Name
Why Tupiza? We are sometimes asked about our company's name. We wanted something short, because even in the 21st century with databases and copy-and-paste it's amazing how many times you have to write or type a company's name. If it could be limited to 6 letters we could get a personalised plate for the car, which we have done. And we wanted something a bit different; a name that would prompt people to ask "What does that mean?" In this we have been entirely successful. Some folk assert that it must be an acronym, but it's not. It's the name of a town BIll has visited in Bolivia, where the 'z' is pronounced as an 's'. Here in New Zealand we pronounce it as a 'z' - Tupiza!
